And, as cognitive scientist Lera Boroditsky shares in this fascinating TED Talk, language has a huge effect on our behavior. Hi All!  Welcome to the Travel Tuesday Email, which goes out every other Tuesday and always offers interesting travel-related stories, a suggestion of social media personalities to follow and a quote to ponder.  OVERCOMING OBSTACLES IN TRAVEL I came across Zach Anner's videos years ago and they still inspire me today. Zach is a comedian, actor and writer with cerebral palsy who wanted to start a travel show for reasons you'll see in this video. It's adventure, it's friendship at its best, and it's a guy who's spirit is so infectious he now has a show on Oprah Winfrey's Own Network.  Click Here for the adventure of Zach's friends bringing him to the Cascades in Blacksburg, Virginia.  A LESSON FROM THE WORST DRUMMER IN BELIZE If you have the opportunity to listen to a Garifuna band from Belize, or see one live like I did while working aboard a small cruise ship, you'll be carried away by their infectious drum beats and African-inspired melodies. This is not about them though. This is the story of a cruise passenger, curiosity, and embracing life, no matter what people might say about you.  Click here to learn from the worst drummer in Belize.   WHO I'M FOLLOWING:  Besides having one of my favorite first names, Macduff Everton is also one of my favorite photographers. I had the privilege of traveling with him in British Columbia and was able to see why his Insta profile "visual anthropologist" is such an apt title. He picked quiet moments to engage people, asked questions and listened intently before evening thinking about raising his camera. When he did, brilliant. He can capture more than most people see. Simply scrolling the stories will help you breathe easier. But this piece, "How Cultivating a Sense of Wonder Can Help You Become a Better Leader," hits at so much that I've found to be true in my own path with travel that I had to share it. Click here to become a better leader.  WHAT I'M READING:  I am no fan of pigeons. But pigeons with tiny cameras on their bellies? Love. This is a interesting and strange look at essentially the first drone photographers. In 2016, National Geographic Photographer Jonathan Irish and his partner, Stefanie Payne, celebrated the 100th Anniversary of North America's National Parks by visiting all of them (in an Air Stream!). Jonathan is one of my favorite photographers and the couple's book documenting their amazing journey (and our amazing National Parks!) is due out soon. It's going to be spectacular. When she was 16, she learned of her roots in the Haida Nation and the remote archipelago of Haida Gwaii, British Columbia. He captures the archipelago's natural beauty with an almost otherworldly perspective. This 5-minute video features two guides who have been at the bottom and are now living full lives, supporting themselves and enlightening tourists on a deeper level. If you find yourself in Edinburgh, take the tour!   Click here to meet the once-homeless tour guides (video). LEARN FROM THE BEST:  Since Kitchen Confidential and No Reservations came on the scene, I've been listening to whatever Anthony Bourdain has to say.  CLICK HERE for a great new interview and piece on Anthony from Money.  Look for the term "nerd fury" and the brilliant travel advice tactic it stems from.  (And set your DVRs. The 11th season of Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown starts April 29th on CNN.) WHO I'M FOLLOWING:  There are 40 million photos uploaded to Instagram every day. National Geographic photographer Aaron Huey posts some of my favorites.
